Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited, a wholly owned legal entity of the Government of Maharashtra, was incorporated in June 2005 under the Companies Act following the reorganization of the former Maharashtra Electricity Board to transmit electricity from generation point to distribution point. Owns and operates most of Maharashtra’s power transmission system.
MSETCL operates a transmission network consisting of 39,871 line kilometers of transmission lines and 559 high-voltage substations with a transforming capacity of 89,178 MVA. This infrastructure makes up most of the country’s interregional and intraregional power transmission grid. The company is also distinguished by the fact that it is the only public energy company to have its own HVDC lines.
The Company operates a 752 km 1,500 MW, 500 KV bipolar HVDC line from Chandrapur to Padghe. This was considered a great success as East Maharashtra has electricity generation due to the good availability of coal, while West Maharashtra and nearby cities like Mumbai, Pune and Nashik have huge electricity consumption. Installation of ABT meters in 530 energy billing stations and FBSM implementation.The ERP system is fully integrated and operational with key departmental functions online. In order to create a complete communication network using the existing infrastructure, a fiber optic communication system with a length of approx. 2,801 km will be installed.
