G.S.V.M. Known worldwide for its academic excellence, Kanpur Medical College is named after the late Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, a great freedom fighter who lost his life on the altar of social insanity in Kanpur in March 1931. It was the first UP medical school to be established in independent India and marked a turning point in the annals of medical education in the UP state.

It is one of five medical colleges in India established under the Second Five Year Plan. late _shriganesh _shankar This college was founded in November 1955 and its cornerstone was laid on April 24, 1956 by Venerable Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India.Mathur was the first rector of this university. Tuition and student training first started at King George’s Medical College in Lucknow as a building was under construction in Kanpur.

Temporary workers have been hired since May 1, 1957 through selection by an ad hoc government-appointed commission. Students were trained in pre-clinical subjects in Lucknow for the first two years, then staff were selected and all students were transferred to Kanpur. DRCB Singh was the main person responsible for the commencement of teaching at Kanpur Medical College from August 1, 1957.

This institution was founded by Dr. Sampoorna Nand, Prime Minister of the United States.P on 13 December 1959 Initially the college was affiliated with Lucknow University and later in 1968 when Kanpur University was established the college was affiliated with it. Since then, this medical school has grown in every field and has gained national and international recognition for its excellent research and teaching.
