About India Post Circle Recruitment 2023 – 30041 GDS Posts Apply Online IndGovtjobs
India Post is a postal system operated by the Government of India, which is part of the Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications. Commonly known as Posti, it is the most common postal system in the world. Warren Hastings took the initiative to establish a postal service in the country in 1766 under the British East India Company. It was originally created as a corporate mail. It was later converted into crown service by Lord Dalhousie in 185 .
Dalhousie introduced uniform postage (universal service) and helped pass the Indian Post Office Act of 185 , which greatly improved the Postal Act of 1837, which established regular post offices in India.[6] That created the postmaster for the whole country.[7][8] It deals with the delivery of mail (post), sending money through money orders, accepting deposits from small savings schemes, offering life insurance under Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) and providing retail services such as bill collection, sales. of forms etc.
The DoP also acts as an agent of the Government of India in providing other services to citizens such as judgment payments and payment of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) wages. India Post is the world’s largest postal network with 15 ,965 post offices (as of March 2017). The country is divided into 23 postal districts, each of which is headed by a postmaster. Each circle is divided into districts headed by a postmaster-general and containing field units known as divisions.
These sections are further divided into subsections. In addition to the 23 districts, the Director General heads the main district that provides postal services to the Indian Army. One of the highest post offices in the world is located in Hikkim. Hikkim Post Office is located at , 00 meters above sea level in the remote Spiti Valley of northern India and is an important link to the outside world.
