The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) was established in July 1950 under the Bombay Provincial Corporation Act (19 9) and is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city of Ahmedabad. History See also: List of Mayors of Ahmedabad On April 21, 1831, Mr. Bordel, the City Collector, formed a City Wall Fund Committee of citizens of Ahmedabad to raise funds for the repair and restoration of the flood-damaged Ahmedabad Fort.

The commission imposed a 1% tax on the sale of various goods such as ghee. It raised 2 lakh rupees and improved the fort.[3] Ahmedabad Municipality was established in 1873.[ ] The British government appointed Ranchhodlal Chhotalal as the first President of the Municipality on 15 September 1885. The Republican Municipality was formed on 1 April 1915. Bhaishankar Nanabhai was the first elected chairman of the municipality.[3] Ahmedabad district was established in 1925–1926.

In 1935, the city celebrated the centenary of the Ahmedabad Municipality.[3] Ahmedabad Municipality was upgraded to Amdavad Municipal Corporation in July 1950 under the Bombay Provincial Corporation Act, 19 9.[3][ ] The appointment of the mayor was formed instead of the president. Chinubhai Chimanlal was the last president and first mayor of the city
