Established on 5 August 2010, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabouris is a core and strategic institution supporting more than 500 researchers and educators in imparting education to postgraduate and post-graduate students, conducting basic, strategic, applied and adaptive research and ensuring effective technology transfer. capacity building of farmers and extension workers.
The university has 6 colleges (5 agriculture and 1 horticulture) and 12 research stations in three agro-ecological zones of Bihar. The university also has 21 KVKS established in 20 of the 25 districts under the jurisdiction of the university. The curricula of the university and its colleges have been accredited by ICAR for the year 2015-16. The University is also an ISO 9000:2008 certified organization with international standard operating protocols to maintain the highest standards in teaching, research, extension and training.
The Bihar Agricultural University has been given the responsibility of crop improvement, horticulture and animal husbandry, in addition to agricultural management and research that could improve overall agricultural production in agro-climatic zones II, III A and IIIB, which cover major parts of the country. . Scientists are also working to improve the management of natural and genetic resources, to diversify production systems. And high value crops and livestock products.
Social, economic and political research is an important part of scientific research to better target sustainable development and increase the use and effectiveness of research results. It has strong links with ICAR Institutes including Rice Research Department, Wheat Research Department, Indian Pulses Research Institute, Indian Plant Research Institute, Indian Agricultural Systems Research Institute, Maize Research Department, Crops Research Institute, Central Institute of Subtropical Horticulture, National Dairy Research.

BAU and ICRISAT are also investigating the possibility of developing pigeon pea hybrids using local materials. The university is also working with the International Plant Nutrients Institute to develop site-specific nutrient management for rice, wheat and maize. Together with the Ebonics University in Germany, technologies are being developed to compensate for the water stress of rainy winter legumes. A new research center was established for the micropropagation of strawberries and exotic flowers; protected cultivation; production of biofertilizers and biopesticides.
The main research topics of the university are improving the use of resources, management of natural resources, including adaptation to climate change and their control.
