Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka, is a special purpose entity responsible for the implementation and operation of the Bangalore Metro Rail project.
The Bangalore Metro, also known as the “Namma Metro”, not only adds beauty to the Bangalore skyline, but more importantly, provides a safe, fast, reliable and convenient public transportation system. Additionally, the Namma Metro is an important green addition for the city of Bangalore as it significantly contributes to reducing carbon emissions.
The subway line has a length of 69.66 km. (a) 39.34 km East-West Corridor: 13.71 km from Krishnarajapura to Whitefield Subway Station (Kadugodi) and 25.63 km from Baiyappanahalli East to West Kengeri Terminal, 30.32 km, starting in Nagasandra in the north and ending at the Silk Institute in the south. This is India’s first Metro Rail project to enter service with 750V DC traction on standard gauge third rail.
