The Chandigarh Capitol Complex–as part of LeCorbusier’s over all ensemble–was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site at the 40th session of the World Heritage Conference in July 2016,reflecting the development of two satellite cities in neighboring states.

In 2015, an article published by the BBC named Chandigarh as one of the few master plan cities in the world that have successfully combined monumental architecture, cultural development and modernization.
