The State Government of Madhya Pradesh is running light rail projects in the cities of Bhopal and Indore. EMBASSADOR. Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) was formed to develop metro projects in the state. The first phase of Madhya Pradesh metro network will be operational by the end of September 2023 in Bhopal and Indore with a length of about 7 km and 17 km respectively.5km each.

On August 19, 2019, the state government signed a memorandum of understanding with the Bhopal and Indore Metro Rail Systems Center. The metro in these two cities will cost more than 14,000 crore rupees and will have a total length of about 62.41 km. MPMRCL is a 50/50 joint venture between the center and the state government.

The aim is to offer a sustainable, rail-based urban transport system and a smart and healthy city to improve quality of life and access to goods and services, create employment opportunities and sustainable development and mitigate changes leading to a more friendly development lead urban environment, d. H. a health-promoting environment with dedicated road space for people, not vehicles, so that people can integrate walking and cycling into their daily activities when traveling to ensure healthy living.
