The National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is one of the 31 institutions of national importance established by an Act of Parliament, namely the National Institute of Technology Act, 2007, and is fully funded by the Government of India. The institute’s mission is to provide higher technical education and conduct research in various fields of engineering, science, technology and management.
Originally founded in 1961 as the Regional School of Engineers (REC), it was transformed into the National Institute of Technology in 2002. The institute offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in engineering, science, technology and management. By proactively collaborating with many research organizations, academic institutions and industries, the institute has established a new style of work under the NIT regime.
Nestled in a picturesque landscape at the foot of the Western Ghats, NIT Calicut is approximately 22 kilometers northeast of the city of Calicut in the Indian state of Kerala. It stretches about 1.5 kilometers along the Calicut-Mukkam road and covers an area of about 120 hectares. Calicut, also known as Kozhikode, is located in the Malabar region of the state of Kerala and made world history with the discovery of the sea route to India in 1498 by the Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama.
Set against the idyllic backdrop of the Arabian Sea to the west and the proud Wayanad Hills to the east, Calicut is known for its tranquil beaches, lush greenery, historical sites, tranquil backwaters, wildlife sanctuaries, rivers and waterfalls. Because it is a residential facility only, the campus infrastructure includes academic buildings, research laboratories, dormitory, dormitory and other services.
The institute currently offers 11 UG programs and 29 GUT programs including the MBA. Research at doctoral level has developed significantly in recent times and the number of published scientific articles and patents has increased significantly.
