The National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur is one of the thirty-one NITs in the country and was established on August 7, 1986 as the Regional College of Engineering, a joint and cooperative venture of the government. of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

At the time of its founding, the institute had only two faculties, civil engineering and electrical engineering, each with 30 students. On June 26, 2002, REC Hamirpur obtained the status of a recognized university and was promoted to National Institute of Technology.

NIT Hamirpur is a nationally significant institute established by an Act of Parliament namely the National Institute of Technology Act 2007 which was passed by the President of India on 5th June 2007. The provisions of the Act came into force on August 15, 2007 pursuant to SO 1384(E) of August 9, 2007.

The goals of the institute expressed in the logo are truly exceptional in scope and vision.
