NLC India Limited (NLC) (formerly Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited) is a central public sector company under the administrative control of the Government of India’s Ministry of Coal. It produces about 30 million tons of lignite per year from open pit mines in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu, South India and Barsingsar, Bikaner District, Rajasthan.

Lignite is used to generate electricity in combined heat and power plants with an installed capacity of 3,640 MW. His joint venture owns a 1,000 MW coal-fired power plant. The company recently expanded into renewable energy generation, installing a 1,404 MW solar array to generate electricity from photovoltaic (PV) cells and 51 MW of electricity from wind turbines.

It was established in 1956 and was 100% owned by the Government of India. A small portion of its shares have been sold to the public for listing on the stock exchanges where they are listed.
