Power Grid Corporation of India Limited was incorporated on 23rd October 1989[4] under the Companies Act 1956 with an authorized share capital of Rs. 5,000 crore(laterincreased to 10,000 crore in FY2007-2008) as a jointventure-a wholly owned public company of India Government with 51.34% of the company as of 31 December 2020 and as the Indian Government’s main power transmission company country.
Originally called National Power Transmission Corporation Limited,the company was responsible for the design,construction,ownership,operation and maintenance of the country’s high voltage transmission systems.[4] On November 8, 1990, the company received its articles of incorporation.Its name was later changed to Power Grid Corporation of India Limited on 23 October 1992.
Power Corporation (NHPC), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC) and gradually other companies such as NPC, THDC, SJVNL;began commercial operation in January 1993. Between1994and1996,it also gradually took over the management of the Regional CargoDispatch Centers (RLDCs) of the Central Electric Authority (CEA), whichgrewwith a Unified Load DistributionSystem and everexpandingCommunicationsPrograms(ULDC).
The National CargoDispatchCenter (NLDC) was founded in 2009 for national coordination. The company then expand edits telecom operations to efficiently utilizeidle telecom capacity with in the Unified Dispatch Center(ULDC) system sand leverage the nation widebroadcasting infrastructure.
