Laxmibai Patil with his exemplary sacrifices that made the mission a reality. Rayat Shikshan Sanstha is one of the leading educational institutions in Asia. The value of his contribution to education in general is enormous, for from the beginning he sought to place an emphasis on educating the downtrodden, poor and ignorant, who in fact make up the majority of society.The institute’s founder, the late Dr. Karamaveer Bhaurao Patil, was a man of the masses who devoted his mind and heart to their education.
He was acutely aware of the social ills that plagued his time and fully aware of the urgency of spreading education. He believed that education alone could solve social problems such as caste hierarchy, money lending, illiteracy, untouchability, superstition, and social and economic inequality. All his life he tried to translate this belief into reality.
He defended the poor, the weak, the underprivileged and spared no effort to advance them. He was a great philanthropist who worked hard to educate the masses to bring a kind light of hope into their lives of poverty and ignorance. Realizing that social ills could only be solved through mass education, he laid the foundation for Rayat Shikshan Sanstha by opening a boarding house in Kale (Tal-Karad, Dist-Satara) in 1919. However, he soon moved the headquarters of his educational institution to Satara in 1924.
