the dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, formerly known as Willingdon Hospital, was set up by the British for their staff and only had 54 beds. After independence, control was transferred to the New Delhi Municipal Committee. In 1954 control was transferred to the central government of independent India.

The hospital has grown over the years and now has approximately 1,532 beds spread over 30 hectares.It serves the population of New Delhi and Central District, excluding patients from other regions and also outside of Delhi. It has 94 beds in nursing homes for C.G.H.S. beneficiaries, including maternity nurses. It is fully funded by the Government of India (Department of Health and Family Welfare).

No emergency patient is denied treatment at this hospital. The hospital has a Non-Invasive Cardiac Surgery Laboratory and a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory with equipment for TMT, echocardiography, coronary angiography, and pacemaker implantation. The hospital offers facilities for cardiac surgery, vascular surgery and neurosurgery. The hospital offers 24-hour emergency medical, surgical, orthopedic, and pediatric services.Facilities in other specialist areas are also available on request.

All supporting services such as laboratory, x-ray, CT scan, ultrasound, blood bank and ambulance are available 24 hours a day. The hospital has coronary artery wards and intensive care units for cardiac and non-cardiac patients suffering from major heart attacks. The hospital has developed a natural disaster action plan.

Emergency beds used during mass casualties and disasters. , During the year, the hospital serves around 18 lakh OPD patients, admits around 67,000 patients and around 2.There are 75,000 emergency patients. Approximately 10,000 yellow fever vaccinations and 915 births. Likewise, about 5,000 CT scans, 1.70 lakh X-ray cases, 28 lakh laboratory tests and about 17,000 ultrasound scans are performed. The hospital performs about 11,000 major surgeries and 49,000 minor surgeries annually.

The hospital has two incinerators, a microwave oven and two plastic shredders for a robust hospital waste disposal system. , With the development and expansion of the hospital’s medical facilities, the number of the hospital’s administrative facilities also increased to 3164. With the development of the facility, the administrative work also increased. The sanctioning power of the Central Health Service & Not CHS, Group A, Group B rated & Attached are non-attached staff, ministry staff, nurses, paramedics and Group D staff with previously revised scales.
