SJVN, formerly known as Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam, is an Indian public sector company engaged in the generation and transmission of hydropower. It was established in 1988 as the Nathpa Jhakri Power Corporation, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh. The company’s two hydropower plants – Nathpa Jhakri and Rampur – have a combined hydropower capacity of 1,912 MW.

In addition, it has an installed capacity of 97.6 MW of wind energy and 81.9 MW of solar energy.[5][6]Starting with one project and one national operation (ie India’s largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri hydroelectric plant in Himachal Pradesh), the company has commissioned eight projects with a total capacity of 2091.5 MW and 86 km of 00 KV transmission lines.

SJVN is currently implementing or managing power projects in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Assam, Odisha, Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh in India. Apart from India, SJVN also has hydropower projects under construction in Nepal and Bhutan.
